The second event (co-sponsored by Quinn-Insurance Ltd) was held over two days at the Belfry Golf Club, which many of you will know is an internationally regarded World and PGA championship golf venue , as well as a 5 star hotel/conference facility.
Consisting of one day of conferencing, followed by drinks and then dinner with after dinner speeches, followed by a day of golf on the championship Brabazon Course with prize giving, this completely free event is hugely popular with our clients, and this year more so than ever before with the weather being excellent throughout.
Day One
Conferencing started with Clare Jarratt of Lexcel, who gave a presentation detailing how risk management can best be utilised, particularly in these economically challenging times, with view to reducing exposure and therefore cost to a practice. In a swine flu enforced change to the published schedule Tara Cosgrove of Quinn- Insurance took the second slot with a presentation / Q&A session on the types of claims which commonly occur (against a solicitors practice) and how to avoid them, providing useful insight into minimising exposure.
After refreshments Christopher Fitton of Pinsent Masons extended his presentation by nearly double (with a lunch break in between) to take up the slack for our swine flu infected absentee, and provided a highly informative and entertaining overview on his 20 years of dealing with solicitors that have had claims made against them , and some useful information on how to handle those tricky mediation cases. Well done and many thanks Chris!
Sarah Watkins, regional manager of the Practice Standards Unit of the SRA concluded conferencing events with her presentation on compliance with the code of conduct which attracted many questions….
Delegates re-convened early evening at the bar where complimentary drinks were provided, to network with PYV and Quinn staff, and each other. A memorable and convivial dinner followed with more complimentary refreshment, concluded with after dinner speeches by Peter Wheeler, ex-England rugby captain, followed by Sam Vesty and Richard Blaze, current Leicester Tigers players, none of which may be repeated here. All in all a highly entertaining evening was had for all, or for some early next morning…
Day Two.
Many of our delegates enjoyed complimentary accommodation to take advantage of the golf the following day. Refreshed by robust breakfasts, and despite one or two sore heads, players teed off from 8.10am onwards until well into the late morning. Unlike last year there were no hole in ones or holidays won, but nonetheless a highly enjoyable day was had by all, the Brabazon course living up to its quality reputation.
Lunch was provided and prizes were dispersed to winners, hands were shook and thoroughly tired by the two days, happy delegates wended their way home after a memorable event……
Selected pictures from the two days are posted here, along with the presentations from our speakers which you are encouraged to read.
Delegates not only achieved 4.5 CPD hours for attending, but also an excellent overview on some very important topics that can only stand them in good stead for the forthcoming months.
