As part of the free added value services that PYV Legal provide to their valued client base, the 2009 seminar season has been exceptionally well received .
Kicking off the series on 26th June 2009 at the world renowned Lloyd’s of London building, (mere moments from PYV’s headquarters in the City of London) a very well attended, busy program followed.
Opening the conference was Robert Tailby of Chubb Insurance Co who detailed some hands–on, practical hints and tips on dealing with and minimising every day risks which any law firm could be exposed to. Clare Jarratt of Lexcel followed with a presentation detailing how risk management can best be utilised, particularly in these economically challenging times with view to reducing exposure and therefore cost to a practice.
Christopher Fitton of Pinsent Masons followed after refreshments with an entertaining and highly enlightening presentation detailing his personal hands-on experience dealing with claims made against solicitor practices over the last 20 years or so – many lessons to be learned there!
Lunch and the opportunity to network with peers and colleges, PYV and insurers followed.
The afternoon session started with David Blackmore, speaking on behalf of MHA Consulting, with a presentation regarding money laundering and how best to deal with and encapsulate this requirement within a practice, as well as pointers on how to deal with the sometimes complex legislation surrounding this issue. He was followed, last but not least, by Adrienne Edgerly-Harris, regional manager of the Practice Standards Unit of the SRA who informed us of what the SRA might look for in terms of practising standards at a law firm, and how best to conduct a relationship with them.
Feedback to date has been overwhelmingly positive, with many delegates writing in individually with thanks and comments on what they feel they got out of this free event.
Delegates not only achieved 4.5 CPD hours for attending, but also an excellent overview on some very important topics that can only stand them in good stead for the forthcoming months.
The presentations (and a few pictures of the event) are posted here, and we strongly encourage you to read them.
