The third in our scheduled series of seminars was held at the prestigious City of Manchester Football Stadium, home to Manchester City Football Club, and located in the heart of Manchester. This impressive venue provided an excellent backdrop to the days events and was appreciated by all.
Opening the conference was Robert Tailby of Chubb Insurance Co who detailed some hands–on, practical hints and tips on dealing with and minimising every day risks which any law firm could be exposed to. Clare Jarratt of Lexcel followed with a presentation detailing how risk management can best be utilised, particularly in these economically challenging times with view to reducing exposure and therefore cost to a practice.
Christopher Fitton of Pinsent Masons followed after refreshments with an entertaining and highly enlightening presentation detailing his personal hands-on experience dealing with claims made against solicitor practices over the last 20 years or so – many lessons to be learned there!
Lunch and networking with peers, colleagues, PYV staff and our presenters followed, and the venue should be complimented on an excellent buffet lunch.
Following lunch the afternoon re-commenced with an engaging and forthright presentation by Andrew Nickels of Zurich Professional who painted a very clear picture (as far as Zurich are concerned) about the state of the professional indemnity insurance market and the likely impact this would have on premiums this forthcoming renewal.
Rupinder Sura, regional manager of the Practice Standards Unit of the SRA concluded matters by informing us as to what the SRA might look for in terms of practising standards at a law firm, and how best a relationship with them might be conducted.
Selected pictures from the two days are posted here, along with the presentations from our speakers which you are encouraged to read.
Delegates not only achieved 4.5 CPD hours for attending, but also an excellent overview on some very important topics that can only stand them in good stead for the forthcoming months.
